Essentials of Clinical Toxicology

Toxicology, an integral part of pharmacology, is concerned with drugs and chemicals responsible for household, environmental or industrial intoxication.

Clinical toxicology focuses on the clinical aspects of toxicology, chiefly the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of poisonings.

Being closely linked to pharmacology and emergency medicine it requires thorough knowledge of pharmacokinetics/toxicokinetics, pharmacodiagnosis, basic principles of toxicology and management of poisoning.

The book has seven sections dealing with the risks and benefits of chemicals, management of poisoning due to pesticides, pharmaceuticals, household and industrial chemicals, plants, fungi, snake and insect toxins, food poisoning and contamination, toxicology laboratory and prevention of poisoning.

The chapter on management of chemical accidents and poisoning management at primary health care level and community education have widened the scope of the book.
