How green American troops and their allies defeated Rommel and won the battle for North America Before the Normandy landings, before the sweep across Northern Europe, before the Battle of the Bulge and the march to Berlin, American solderies, new to war, launched the largest amphibious landing ever attempted, Operation Torch, then met the Germans for the first time in the mountains and deserts of Tunisia.

At Sidi Bou and Kasserine Pass, these poorly led and poorly trained young men suffered a bitter schooling before the battle-harden veterans of Field Marshall Erwin Rommel's fabled African Corps and his Italian allies.

Though beaten, they were not defeated. Meeting the Fox is the dramatic story based on first-hand accounts of how the Americans, with their British and French allies, turned that series of defeats into a stunning victory over the Desert Fox, thereby paving the way for the landings in Sicily months before D-day. Orr Kelly (Bethesda, MD) is the author of many books on the military, including the standard history of the Navy Seals, Brave Men, Dark Waters.

He has also written two novels in the Eagle Force series, Desert Thunder and Eagle Force.
