Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature : We Cultivate Literature on a Little Oatmeal

Scotland and Edinburgh have been the birthplace and inspiration for seven centuries of a vibrant literary culture.

This volume charts seven centuries of Scottish and Edinburgh writing - from 14th century court poets to Hogg, Stevenson, Burns, Gray, Welsh, Rankin and Rowling.

Edinburgh became the first city of literature in December 2004, a designation given by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation) to mark the start of a committed and varied programme to bring literature alive for residents and visitors alike.
