Glaciology is the science of glaciers and their relationship to disciplines like hydrology, geocryology, meteorology, oceanography, geomorphology, environmental and Quaternary geology.

This book deals with the fundamental topics of glaciology, the description of the various types of glaciers, their formation and dynamics.

The theme is discussed in three major parts: Physical glaciology, treating the internal processes of the glaciers, the physical properties, the structure, the movement and the temperature of the ice; Hydrometeorological glaciology, treating the interaction between glacial ice and water, between the atmosphere, the glacial variations and climate; and Geomorphological glaciology, studying the interaction between the glaciers and the surface of the Earth, first and foremost the landscaping by means of erosion and deposition.

The examples used in the book are mainly taken from Svalbard, Scandinavia and Antarctica.
