The Licensing Act 2003 is an important reforming measure which radically overhauls the law relating to the licensing of sales and supplies of alcohol, the provision of entertainments and the provision of late night refreshment services.

It introduces an integrated scheme administered by local authorities. "Alcohol and Entertainment Licensing Law" sets out the background to the legislation, the legislative framework of the Act and the human rights implications of the legislation.

It discusses the various forms of authorisation for licensable activities under the Act and licence and certificate conditions.

The enforcement and appeal provisions of the Act and the important transitional provisions for the introduction of the new licensing scheme are also examined.

The full text of the Act and secondary legislation made under it are included in the book.

This is essential reading for local authorities, legal advisers, licensing policy advisers, those applying for licences, operators and the police.
