The last few years have seen an explosion of new information and resources in the areas of plant molecular genetics and genomics.

As a result of developments such as high throughput sequencing, we now have huge amounts of information available on plant genes.

But how does this help people charged with the task of improving crop species to create products with altered functions or improved characteristics?
