The book, PLANT SCIENCE SND BIOTECHNOLOGY, is a unique one. It is divided into 9 Sections and 22 Chapters cutting across all courses and their synopses in Plant Science and Biotechnology Programme at all levels of study in higher institutions. It is specially designed to meet the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and course lecturers who are desperately in need of such a comprehensive text. Section 1 covers two chapters on simple microbes (Viruses and Bacteria). Section 2 comprises four chapters: Fungi, Algae, Bryophytes and Pteridophytes. Section 3 (about higher plants) has two chapters: Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. Section 4 covers the study of plant structure (Plant Anatomy) and functions (Plant Physiology) in two separate chapters.
Section 5 gives an insight into pre-historic plants: Paleobotany and Palynology. Section 6 contains two chapters: Plant Systematics & Taxonomy, Plant Collection, Plant Biodiversity and Plant Preservation. Section 7 covers the study of plant environment in three chapters including Plant Ecology, Weed Ecology, Plant Vegetation and Plant Diseases. Section 8 covers all aspects of Plant Genetics and Plant Breeding in three chapters including Plant Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering and Plant Tissue Culture. Section nine is concerned with the study of Plant and Business covering Economic Botany and Horticulture in different chapters.
